Telangana’s courts convicted in 40 of the 8,761 atrocity cases before them in 2024
What this shows
What happened in 2024 to cases of crimes against Scheduled Castes in Telangana, at the police and in the courts, beside the all-India figures.
What it does not show: The Telangana SC/ST Commission’s own figures, which are not yet officially available, and complaints the police never registered.

Read these with the numbers
- The Telangana State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes released a three-year report on atrocity cases on 1 October 2026, as reported in the press. No official copy has been published online, and it had not been laid before the Telangana Legislative Assembly when we checked on 10 October 2026. Its figures are not shown here; this page adds them when an official copy is available.
- The commission’s report, as described in the press, covers 2023 to 2026; the NCRB figures here cover one calendar year. The two will not match, and when the report arrives each will be shown with its own definition.
- These are cases the police registered. Complaints the police never registered are in no NCRB table.
- NCRB’s 2024 edition counts crimes under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in place of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), so 2024 may not compare directly with earlier years.
- A year’s cases include cases carried over from earlier years. A case chargesheeted or decided in a year may have been registered in an earlier one.
- States/UTs may not be compared purely on the basis of crime figures, as NCRB says under every table: a State that registers more complaints shows more cases.
Key terms
- FIR
- First Information Report: the record the police make when they register a complaint of a cognizable offence.
- Chargesheet
- The report the police file in court at the end of an investigation when they find a case to answer, sending the accused for trial.
- Final report
- The report the police file when they close a case without a chargesheet.
- Chargesheeting rate
- NCRB’s measure: cases chargesheeted as a share of all cases the police disposed of in the year.
- Conviction rate (NCRB)
- Convictions as a share of trials that finished in the year.
- Scheduled Castes
- The official list of Dalit communities under India’s Constitution.
- Telangana State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
- The State’s statutory commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. It has no website; its three-year report is the one this page awaits.
